What is DEWA
DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority) is the government authority supplying electricity and water to all Dubai properties. Every tenant must open their own DEWA account after moving in.
What you need to connect DEWA
- Ejari (registered tenancy contract) — mandatory
- Emirates ID
- Passport copy
- Meter number (shown on the handover report)
How to connect DEWA
Online at dewa.gov.ae or via the DEWA app. In person at a DEWA service centre. Through typing centres. Online is fastest — connection within 24 hours.
Costs and deposit
Deposit for UAE residents: 1,000–2,000 AED (refunded on move-out). Deposit for non-residents: 2,000–4,000 AED. Connection fee: 110 AED. Electricity meter: 100 AED. Total on first connection: from 1,310 AED.
Useful tips
Connect DEWA on move-in day or the day after. Photograph the meter reading on arrival. Set up auto-pay so you never miss a bill. When leaving, submit a disconnection request 1–2 days in advance.
